Sustainable Tourism 2030
About
173 High Street has signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge to further demonstrate our commitment to improving the sustainability performance of our business between now and 2030.
The UN World Tourism Organisation defines sustainable tourism as "tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environmrnt and host communities."
Here's what we've already been doing:
Our building not only creates electricity for itself, we sell it back to the grid as a result of having our roof covered with solar panels. We've been doing this since 2012.
Our in-room amenities (shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion), are not only beautiful and luxurious, they've been created locally by Re:Mind Wellness, a refillery that uses all natural ingredients and has helped us remove single use amenities from our site.
As much as possible, we support other businesses that are locally owned and encourage our guests to do so as well. Not just because they're handy, we have great local businesses!!
Our personal transportation is either bicycle (available for borrowing by our guests and we've supplied secure lock up for those who bring their own), or EV. Paul is the proud owner of an entirely electric vehicle and guests can look forward to a charging station on premises in the future.
We are pleased to give our guests the option to have their rooms tidied and laundry done daily, or not - it's their choice and we do our laundry on site, running only full loads and line dry all of our bed linens. We've also opted to use Tru Earth Laundry strips - they not only do a great job, the amount of packaging that is eliminated is great!
For the same reasons, we've adopted the Nespresso system for each room. Guests may enjoy a superior cup of coffee and we send the spent capsules back to Nespresso for recycling of both the coffee and the aluminium capsule.
We provide proper dishes and cutlery for guests to use should they choose to bring food back to the Inn. We sort garbage and recycle as much as we possibly can.
Our Deck is not only a great place to relax, we ensure that our selection of flowers, fruits and veggies have lots of attractive species for our bee friends.
